Sectioned encounter of young journalist in Matanzas

A fruitful day of sharing experiences and planning new strategies to improve the operation of union, became the event for young journalist held in the city of Matanzas.

At the meeting, those present insisted on the responsibility that must prevail in journalist praxis and the importance of feedback between the media and public agendas. In this regard, Roberto Jesus Hernandez Hernandez, a journalist from the Cuban News Agency and CubaDebate, emphasized the need to carry out journalist closer to the people and in accordance with their interests:

«Cuban journalism right now is not connecting with the people, either because it does not deal with the issues that interest the population or because it does not treat them well. If you are not capable of talking about own country, of telling the stories of your people, those stories that you see on the street and that surround you……if you do not have the sensitivity to understand what might be interesting and what might interest others. Then, simple, you are not going to reach the public»

For his part Arnaldo Mirabal Hernandez, a journalist from Editorial Giron, urged to promote creativity, rigor and constant preparation in the journalist exercise in times of immediacy, veracity and multimedia in the digital environment.

«The journalist has to see today where the world of communication is going, read, be investigating all the time and know what is happening with respect to any area which he is going to perform. It has to be perceived as a kind of brand that people are going to look for because of its reach and, above all, because of its professionalism. In addition, we are seeing how technology is constantly changing and we have to do it the same. That is why also need young people to join in with their fresh ideas so that, without ever violating the ABC, we can do good journalism»
With the presence of journalist and students from the University College of the Press and from this profession at the Yumurina house of higher studies, other issues were also discussed, such as the need for more autonomy in our press system, the potential and challenges of the insertion of advertising in the media, and the new ways to follow to carry out a better journalism in our territory.
