From the emblematic Hall of Mirrors of the Sauto National Monument Theater, the Matanzas press celebrated its day in a provincial event within a long day for March 14, 132 years since the founding of the Patria Newspaper.
Outstanding workers of the union received the Félix Elmusa distinction, a high condition conferred by the Union of Journalists of Cuba for the work sustained for fifteen years in the press media. Likewise, a group of colleagues were honored with the UPEC 60th Anniversary Medal.
Within the framework of the activity, the Granma Ventura newspaper correspondent Jesús García won the Bonifacio Byrne Provincial Journalism Award for the Work of Life. This is recognition of his long and prolific career as a Yumurino media professional.
Territorial bodies were applauded for their work during a year of intense work in the midst of analysis and application of new communication management models.
Under Martí’s banner that “he who tells the truth serves the country better,” the Matanzas press honored the poet and journalist Juan Gualberto Gómez, 170 years after his birth. (ALH)
