Young people from the Cuban Telecommunications Company in a meeting with local history

A representation of young people from different territorial divisions of the Cuban Telecommunications Company throughout the country visited the Enrique Estrada Barracks Firefighters Museum in Matanzas to pay tribute to the combatants killed in the line of duty during the events at the Supertanker Base in the city on August 5.

“When I arrived in Matanzas and saw the Supertanker Base from the bay, all the images of those days of the fire came to mind and I think we could not pass through this city without coming to this place and paying a fair tribute to the deceased combatants. and those who remain at the service of the Fire Department”, expressed Humberto Yera Lorenzo, a prominent young man from the ETECSA Territorial Division in Cienfuegos.

As part of the initiatives, the young people gave a donation to the members of Command 1 of the city’s Fire Department and laid a wreath in front of the sculpture dedicated to the 17 Cubans who lost their lives in the incident.

In a tour of the 5 de Agosto Room located in the museum, Biolexi Ballester Quintana, director of the center, shared with the young people details about the history of the building and the importance of preserving the historical memory of the province.

The initiative is part of the Third National Meeting of Secretaries of Base Committees of ETECSA dedicated to bringing young people closer to the history of Cuba and the advancement of environmental impact tasks that was held in the province of Matanzas from 19 to 23 of June. (ALH)
