Recovery process continues at the Supertanker Base and surrounding areas of the industrial zone of Matanzas, as revealed in the review and analysis of these tasks, headed by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The ministries directly linked to sanitation tasks and other actions, reported on their activities at the meeting, held this Monday at the Palace of the Revolution, and which was also headed by the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.

The president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH), Antonio Rodríguez Rodríguez, reported on the maintenance of the water supply to the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant and explained details of an investment that will be made in the area to ensure supply and that will benefit the population of that area.

The Minister of Construction, René Mesa Villafaña, addressed the support of the entities of the agency in the recovery of steel, the hauling of debris and the supply of materials, among other activities, to mitigate the consequences after the fire. Photo: Revolution Studios.

Authorities from the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, reported for their part that the monitoring of air quality presents a behavior similar to that of previous days. Due to the height of the smoke column, the winds and the short time —in environmental terms— that the incident lasted, the values of the gases are close to normal or within the norm, as has been reported in all the past days .

Nor have they found evidence of acid rains, nor effects on human health, by not reporting these days, nor in the past, in the Health system, an increase in the number of patients with respiratory diseases or others that could be associated.

The evidence for effects on animal and plant health is also negative. No damage has been detected to the flora and fauna of the locality or in surrounding areas, nor to nearby ecosystems and protected areas, according to CITMA experts.

The main damage is in the soil of the Supertanker Base, and the specialists are working on the bioremediation strategies that will be applied, as well as on the disposal of the hazardous waste derived from the recovery actions.

The deputy prime ministers, Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez and Ricardo Cabrisas Ruíz, among others, participated in the check on the recovery work at the Supertanker Base and other areas of the Matanzas industrial zone.
