Normal or not very active hurricane season forecast for Cuba

The 2023 hurricane season is expected to be normal or not very active for our country. The forecast indicates the occurrence of at least 11 tropical systems.

As explained by Marixma Millares, director of the Provincial Meteorology Center in Matanzas, of these 11 cyclonic organisms, 5 can reach the category of hurricane. Of these, seven will be developed in the Atlantic Ocean, two will do so in the Caribbean Sea and two in the Gulf of Mexico.

Existing conditions lead to being prepared and alert. The specialist adds that for this season the surface temperature of the sea was analyzed, which is warmer than normal.

“The temperature of the sea surface is around 30 degrees Celsius, a fundamental factor for the formation of these tropical systems. In the first quarter of the year, the presence of the La Niña climatic event was maintained, at the moment we are in a neutral period, the transition to the El Niño climatic event.”

Cuba shows a preparation every year to face the occurrence of tropical organisms between the months of June and November and thereby minimize the loss of human life and economic assets.
