With a cultural and health promotion activity in the Gallery-Workshop of the artist Jesús Mederos on Paseo Narváez in the Yumurina city, the National Day for Prematurity in Matanzas concluded.
The event aimed to raise awareness among family members about the risks of preterm births during the first five years of a child’s life and was led and participated by specialists from the Eliseo Noel Caamaño Provincial Pediatric Hospital.
Dr. José Hernández, deputy director of the Provincial Health Directorate, explained that given the increase in prematurity indicators in Matanzas, investigations are being increased in all territories to reevaluate pregnant women at 28 weeks or more with the aim of detecting behaviors that represent risk factor’s.
In the meeting where premature boys and girls from the province and their families participated, as well as specialists from the Provincial Health Directorate in Matanzas, they urged women of reproductive age to avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages, smoking and changing partners since represent the most frequent causes of prematurity.
