Dance for two in Matanzas

The Danza Espiral company, together with the Provincial Directorate of Culture, the Provincial Council of Performing Arts, the UNEAC Branch in Matanzas and the AHS, call for the 15th edition of the Danzandos National Choreography and Interpretation Competition, which will be held in the city of Matanzas from October 24 to 27, 2024.

This edition will be dedicated to the 65 years of Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, the mother company of the modern dance movement in Cuba, as well as to the outstanding dancers and choreographers José Antonio Chávez and Alfredo O’Farril Pacheco, both National Dance Prize winners in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

A note released by Danza Espiral points out that this year the organizers take on a challenge: adapting to new spaces: “Creativity has no borders. We invite choreographers and dancers to challenge themselves, to reinvent spaces and to create magic,” they say.

For the second time, middle-level dance and ballet schools are invited.

The call is open to all forms and styles of dance, including its link with other art forms.

As usual, master classes, workshops and other training activities will be held that will enrich the experience of all participants.

Competition rules: – Two performers.

Maximum duration 10 minutes.

Jury made up of prestigious dance personalities. The jury’s decision will be final.

Send the Organizing Committee a sample of the work before September 30, the deadline for registration, along with the data of the choreographer, performers, duration time and minimum technical needs for the presentation.

Each group will cover the costs of transportation, lodging and food. The province will assume internal transportation and guarantee the lodging places after prior coordination. (ALH)
