In the municipality of Colón, the Contracting Committee of the Administration Council approved a new price list for 43 products for immediate compliance in agricultural markets and fairs and by self-employed workers.
Mayelín Alonso Domínguez, head of the Control Department in the municipal Directorate of Finance and Prices, says that price formation is based on the analysis of the cost sheet of each product and the time of year, with a profit margin of up to 20%.
He exemplifies that the sweet potato, which until now cost 40 pesos per pound, can go up to 24 pesos per pound; the 26 pesos drop to 18 pesos and the malanga reaches a maximum price of 48 pesos per pound.
The measure responds to the excessive and speculative prices awarded to agricultural products, and the permanent control of compliance with the stipulated prices corresponds to the groups created at the municipal level and to each Popular Council.
He explained that in the face of violations, measures will be applied such as the forced sale of products to the population and the application of fines to offenders.
