About fourteen thousand people in the municipality of Colón are over 60 years old, which represents more than 22% of the population of this territory.
In view of the aging population, the Program of care for the elderly is strengthened, which today has institutions such as 3 grandparents’ homes, two nursing homes and Geriatrics services at the Doctor Mario Muñoz Monroy hospital.
Although everything is not yet resolved, says Dr. Teresa Reyes Camejo, an official of the Program, we work with results to achieve care for the elderly.
Of the activities for the International Day of Older Persons, he explained the realization of mini-festivals in all the institutions that welcome grandparents. Watching these people show their skills for singing, dancing and other manifestations enchants.
Among the objectives of the program is the integration into socialization projects to contribute to improving the quality of life, including the Chair of the Elderly and the Experimental Theater Group.
The care of the elderly is a permanent task with predetermined activities and framed by the slogan: A decade of healthy aging.
