Celebrates Railway Workers’ Day

The Unidad Empresarial de Base (UEB) Ferroazúcar “Sergio González” of the municipality of Colón was the headquarters of the central activity in the province for the Railway Workers’ Day.

The repairs and transportation of sugar cane and its derivatives are the main activities of the entity linked to the transfer of sugar cane from the cleaning centers of Oxitania in the municipality of Los Arabos and España Republicana in Perico to supply the Antonio Sánchez de Cienfuegos sugar mill in Cienfuegos.

The Director of UEB, Pedro Yurien Vera Ramos, explained that the commitment is to transport 1,170 tons per day with a cycle of two trips per day.

During the ceremony, the work of the collectives of different UEBs belonging to Ferrocarriles de Cuba was recognized. The celebration is part of the activities for the 86th anniversary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba.

Other activities consolidate business structures and labor collectives which also contribute to improve results such as the provision of services for the repair and maintenance of traction equipment, wheel machining and the rental of locomotives to other entities without neglecting the correlation between expenses, income and the rational use of energy carriers.

At the meeting presided by workers with more than 20 and 25 years, respectively, of work experience, they received the “José María Pérez Capote” Distinction awarded by the National Union of Transport and Port Workers.

As a token of the UEB Ferroazúcar’s bond with the community, pioneers of the “Paulina Rodríguez” elementary school presented dances and poetry for the celebration.
