Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant celebrates its anniversary

The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant celebrates 36 years of being founded in the midst of a repair process that seeks to extend its useful life and rescue power from yesteryear.

The largest unitary generation block on the Island fulfills the responsibility of generating electricity from national crude oil, something that seemed like a pipe dream on March 19, 1988 when Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz inaugurated the plant.

In more than three and a half decades, the Matanzas thermal unit preserves the challenge of stability from the contribution to the National Electroenergy System. Its workers rest little with the sleepless desire to make sure their homes have electricity.

The complex economic scenarios or the crises of raw materials for the expensive and million-dollar rehabilitations do not deter the troops of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant either, which has changed since its creation, but preserves the task of electrical generation and the contribution to the nation.
