The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, participated in the inauguration of the XII Edition of the Varadero Gourmet International Festival 2022, based at the Plaza Américas Convention Center, the main Sun and beach destination in Cuba.
Marrero Cruz and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, María del Carmen Orellana, cut the ribbon and officiated at the opening of the event, which this year presents a renewed gastronomic concept in defense of environmental conservation.
Ecogastronomy and modernity constitute the central axis of the event, which returns to Varadero from September 12th to 15th after three years stopped by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Authorities from the tourism sector, world experts in gastronomy, contestants and guests will participate in conferences on ecogastronomy and agroecology, competitive cooking and cocktail events, blind tastings, presentations of tourism products and tours of emblematic restaurant sites in Varadero.
During the opening gala, tribute was paid to chef Yamilé Magariño Andúx, who died at the age of 43, a pioneer in defending the concept of eco-gastronomy on the island and who accompanied the Varadero Gourmet festival for eleven editions.
